Cut out heart shape

Start by folding your pink cardstock paper in half and cutting out a large heart shape. Cut another heart shape inside that heart so that when you unfold it the middle section of the heart is cut out. (You could also choose to leave it as a solid heart.)

2. Cut out mini hearts too

Use your heart punch to cut several hearts out of construction paper. My daughter loves to use these punches so she was a big helper. We stuck with Valentine’s Day colors using red, purple and white. We ended up using 12 hearts total.

3. Write letters on hearts

Lay out your letters bottle caps together with the hearts and markers (see picture below). My preschooler picked out a letter she wanted to practice writing, then she wrote it onto one of the hearts. As she picked out the letters she wanted to practice writing, I asked her the name of the letter and if she knew the sound it makes for more alphabet practice. (You could also put the letters into a bag and have your preschooler draw out a letter.)

4. Repeat till there is no empty hearts left

Continue writing letters on all of your hearts. Sometimes my daughter wasn’t happy with how her letter turned out so she would use the back side to practice the letter again.

5. Glue all letters to your heart

Finish the activity by gluing all your alphabet hearts onto your big pink heart. We finished by reviewing all the letters on her heart.

And that’s it!
